Stability theorems for symplectic and contact pairs
We prove Gray--Moser stability theorems for complementary pairs of forms of
constant class defining symplectic pairs, contact-symplectic pairs and contact
pairs. We also consider the case of contact-symplectic and contact-contact
structures, in which the constant class condition on a one-form is replaced by
the condition that its kernel hyperplane distribution have constant class in

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome: case report
Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is an infrequent, but potentially life-threatening neurologic emergency associated with the use of neuroleptic or antipsychotic drugs. A 43 years old male with a history of trigeminal neuralgia developed Neuroleptic malignant syndrome while receiving Carbamazepine and Amitryptylline. Treatment is mainly supportive and includes withdrawal of the neuroleptic medication and, possibly, administration of drugs such as dantrolene and bromocriptine. Complications of NMS include acute renal failure and acute respiratory failure. The possible etiologies, triggering factors and treatment are discussed with reference to existing literature
Kinematically Redundant Octahedral Motion Platform for Virtual Reality Simulations
We propose a novel design of a parallel manipulator of Stewart Gough type for
virtual reality application of single individuals; i.e. an omni-directional
treadmill is mounted on the motion platform in order to improve VR immersion by
giving feedback to the human body. For this purpose we modify the well-known
octahedral manipulator in a way that it has one degree of kinematical
redundancy; namely an equiform reconfigurability of the base. The instantaneous
kinematics and singularities of this mechanism are studied, where especially
"unavoidable singularities" are characterized. These are poses of the motion
platform, which can only be realized by singular configurations of the
mechanism despite its kinematic redundancy.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure
Atomistic Simulations of Laser controlled Exciton Transfer and Stabilization in Symmetric Double Quantum Dots
The creation, transfer, and stabilization of localized excitations are studied in a donor acceptor Frenkel exciton model in an atomistic treatment of reduced size double quantum dots QDs of various sizes. The explicit time dependent dynamics simulations carried out by hybrid time dependent density functional theory configuration interaction show that laser controlled hole trapping in stacked, coupled germanium silicon quantum dots can be achieved by a UV IR pump dump pulse sequence. The first UV excitation creates an exciton localized on the topmost QD and after some coherent transfer time, an IR pulse dumps and localizes an exciton in the bottom QD. While hole trapping is observed in each excitation step, we show that the stability of the localized electron depends on its multiexcitonic character. We present how size and geometry variations of three Ge Si nanocrystals influence transfer times and thus the efficiency of laser driven populations of the electron hole pair state
A MEC-based Extended Virtual Sensing for Automotive Services
Multi-access edge computing (MEC) comes with the promise of enabling low-latency applications and of reducing core network load by offloading traffic to edge service instances. Recent standardization efforts, among which the ETSI MEC, have brought about detailed architectures for the MEC. Leveraging the ETSI model, in this paper we first present a flexible, yet full-fledged, MEC architecture that is compliant with the standard specifications. We then use such architecture, along with the popular OpenAir Interface (OAI), for the support of automotive services with very tight latency requirements. We focus in particular on the Extended Virtual Sensing (EVS) services, which aim at enhancing the sensor measurements aboard vehicles with the data collected by the network infrastructure, and exploit this information to achieve better safety and improved passengers/driver comfort. For the sake of concreteness, we select the intersection control as an EVS service and present its design and implementation within the MEC platform. Experimental measurements obtained through our testbed show the excellent performance of the MEC EVS service against its equivalent cloud-based implementation, proving the need for MEC to support critical automotive services, as well as the benefits of the solution we designed.This work was supported by the European Commission through the H2020 5G-TRANSFORMER project (Project ID 761536). Yttrium-90 Radioembolization of Hepatic Metastases from Colorectal Cancer
Liver metastases from colorectal cancer (CRC) result in substantial morbidity and mortality. The primary treatment is systemic chemotherapy, and in selected patients, surgical resection; however, for patients who are not surgical candidates and/or fail systemic chemotherapy, liver-directed therapies are increasingly being utilized. Yttrium-90 (Y-90) microsphere therapy, also known as selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) or radioembolization, has proven to be effective in terms of extending time to progression of disease and also providing survival benefit. This review focuses on the use of Y-90 microsphere therapy in the treatment of liver metastases from CRC, including a comprehensive review of published clinical trials and prospective studies conducted thus far. We review the methodology, outcomes, and side effects of Y-90 microsphere therapy for metastatic CRC
Inkjet drug printing onto contact lenses: Deposition optimisation and non-invasive dose verification
Inkjet printing has the potential to advance the treatment of eye diseases by printing drugs on demand onto contact lenses for localised delivery and personalised dosing, while near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy can further be used as a quality control method for quantifying the drug but has yet to be demonstrated with contact lenses. In this study, a glaucoma therapy drug, timolol maleate, was successfully printed onto contact lenses using a modified commercial inkjet printer. The drug-loaded ink prepared for the printer was designed to match the properties of commercial ink, whilst having maximal drug loading and avoiding ocular inflammation. This setup demonstrated personalised drug dosing by printing multiple passes. Light transmittance was found to be unaffected by drug loading on the contact lens. A novel dissolution model was built, and in vitro dissolution studies showed drug release over at least 3 h, significantly longer than eye drops. NIR was used as an external validation method to accurately quantify the drug dose. Overall, the combination of inkjet printing and NIR represent a novel method for point-of-care personalisation and quantification of drug-loaded contact lenses
Prevalence and risk factors of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) in livestock and companion animal in high-risk areas in Malaysia
Japanese encephalitis (JE) is vector-borne zoonotic disease which causes encephalitis in humans and horses. Clinical signs for Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infection are not clearly evident in the majority of affected animals. In Malaysia, information
on the prevalence of JEV infection has not been established. Thus, a cross-sectional study was conducted during two periods, December 2015 to January 2016 and March to August in 2016, to determine the prevalence and risk factors in JEV infections among animals and birds in Peninsular Malaysia. Serum samples were harvested from the 416 samples which were collected
from the dogs, cats, water birds, village chicken, jungle fowls, long-tailed macaques, domestic pigs, and cattle in the states of Selangor, Perak, Perlis, Kelantan, and Pahang. The serum samples were screened for JEV antibodies by commercial IgG ELISA kits. A questionnaire was also distributed to obtain information on the animals, birds, and the environmental factors of sampling
areas. The results showed that dogs had the highest seropositive rate of 80% (95% CI: ± 11.69) followed by pigs at 44.4% (95% CI: ± 1.715), cattle at 32.2% (95% CI: ± 1.058), birds at 28.9% (95% CI: ± 5.757), cats at 15.6% (95% CI: ± 7.38), and monkeys at 14.3% (95% CI: ± 1.882). The study also showed that JEV seropositivity was high in young animals and in areas where mosquito vectors and migrating birds were prevalent
The catfish resources of south west coast of India - prospects and management problems
The marine catfishes of the genus Tachysurus form an important resource along Kerala-Karnataka
coast. Till early seventies this resource was mainly exploited by indigenous gears and to a lesser extent
by trawlers. The sudden introduction of large number of purse seines brought in a boost in the production
of catfishes along Karnataka coast. This increase In the production was achieved exclusively by exploiting
shoe's of brooders which frequent the coastal waters for spawning in the monsoon and post monsoon
months. The exploitation of the brooders year after year has led to the decline in production, probably
due to poor recruitment. The steady yield of catfishes along Kerala showed a decreasing trend after the
massive purse seine operations in Karnataka. The possible extent and effects of this decline are discussed
in detail. The yield trends of various species of catfishes by different gears at the important fishing
centres in Kerala and Karnataka have been studied in the light of declining production, and destruction
of brooders. This account is an attempt to establish the degree of destruction of brooders, spawners and
eggs'larvae along the entire coastal stretch, especially during September-October period. An attempt has
been made to suggest suitable managerial measures to overcome this situation, so that the maximum
sustainable yield can be achieved without affecting the spawning population and thereby the stock
